Healthy arguing together. How to do it.
Couples with children argue 8 times more often, than couples without children. Not fun, but very understandable. Because of fatigue and all that comes with it. So it's kind of part of it. When you do it in a healthy way and with respect for each other, it's a lot less bad. How you do that?
How do you make sure you both still have some time for yourself?
Do you sometimes have no time at all for each other or for yourself? Are you swallowed up by those new tasks and feel like your child(ren) are setting the agenda? Time for action! Everyone needs relaxation from time to time. Especially with a young family. That's the only way to keep up with the tropical years. But how do you do that?
How do you deal with sleep deprivation and feedback?
Did you think you were ever tired before having children? Not so, welcome to the tropical years! The time when "being tired" is an understatement. When you're tired, you're more easily irritated. About what your partner says and does. Logical, but then how can you continue to work well together?
Is the sex less, different or just changed?
Less time, tired, no desire yet, anxiety and pain. All (common and normal) reasons that sex may have changed. Temporarily or perhaps for a longer period of time. Very normal, but that doesn't help you. Discuss it with each other. Easy to say, because how do you do that without hurting the other person?
Differences between partners. How do you deal with them?
All partners differ from each other. That can't be otherwise. Perhaps those were the very things you liked about each other before. The differences between parents are magnified by the arrival of a baby and often lead to strife. How can you make these differences your strength?
Working together in parenting, how?
When you have children together, you really need to work together. Working well together in raising and caring for children is a challenge for many parents. Sometimes they work against each other to the detriment of the children. How can you work together even if you sometimes have different ideas?
Changing finances after birth, now what?
Most families experience a drop in income after the baby arrives. Often one of the parents starts working (slightly) less and the costs of the baby are added. Think of diapers, food, clothing and possible daycare. And that will only increase as your baby gets older. It's never too early to get the money picture right together.
Welcome to the world of young parents!
Perhaps the most important moment of your life: the birth of your child. Everything, but really everything changes in your life. And you often didn't quite see it coming. Nor is there anyone to tell you. Feelings, roles and responsibilities, what about you? For the next few years, you'll be working mostly as parents and will have to learn to work well together.
- WHAT DO PARENTS SAY ABOUT PARENTS INC? -
Bart,
father of 2 daughters.
"All the subjects that come up that matter. You discuss them together that you might otherwise think, well, never mind. We are already so busy or tired. But it is a good thing to discuss those subjects. Otherwise it will just keep simmering and come out in ten years.
It's just the way it is, and that's how it's discussed."
Janneke,
mother of 2 daughters
"You really take some time together for each other during a super busy time when you would otherwise be running past each other. Well, more like running. So it makes you really take time for each other.
It's also an advantage that you can do it at your convenience, of course you don't know in advance when the baby will be quiet for a while."
