The New Parents Inc. app. This app is specifically designed to support parents during the transition to parenthood, with a particular focus on parents with a low socioeconomic status (SES) and low-literate parents. The intervention fits seamlessly with the national program Kansrijke Start.
The New Parents Inc. app offers a wide range of benefits:
- Multilingual and available in five languages: Dutch, Turkish, Arabic, Polish and Ukrainian. New languages will be added in successive years, making the app even more accessible to diverse parent groups.
- The app is specifically designed for low SES parents and non-native speakers
- The app suitable for use on tablets, phones and desktops, allowing parents to access the support they need at any time and from any location.
The Parents Inc. app is the only multilingual & online systemic course aimed at both fathers and mothers.
How does it work?
The methodology is evidence-based, based on scale questions from solution-focused therapy, and this methodology is widely used in Youth Care and (J)-GGZ. The app integrates psycho-education on parenting and relationships with gamified exercises, which ensures safe and constructive conversations between parents. The modules consist of short films in which parents talk about the pitfalls of parenthood, and are supported by psycho- and relationship education from a GZ psychologist and system therapist NVRG. All this is complemented by gamified exercises based on solution-focused therapy.

A policy maker in one of our municipalities has calculated the business case for her alderman. She shows that the small investment in Parents Inc. saves post-separation costs for municipalities (policy note upon request). In addition, 92% of parents in the Parents Inc. Randomized Controlled Trial indicated that the course was valuable to their parenting and partnership. By providing early support, the app helps prevent youth care proceedings and overloading care structures due to family problems.

- WHAT IS PARENTS INC? -
Anyone who has children will agree that those early years are rightfully called tropical years. In particular, the challenges of working together to raise and care for them leads many young parents to relationship problems and, in the worst cases, to divorce. Couples with children argue as much as 8 times as much and 1 in 3 couples break up. Frightening figures that can be reduced with the right guidance for parents. From Kansrijke Start, many municipalities purchase Parents Inc. to prevent care systems from being overwhelmed by relationship problems.
The online parenting course set up by professionals.
Parents Inc. (formerly PinkCloud) is an online parenting course created by parents, professionals and experts in the field of relationships and parenting. It can be conducted completely anonymously, just at home from the couch. As a result, participation is higher and issues that are taboo can simply be addressed. Think of sex or intimacy, for example. So it is more effective in counseling parents. Research shows that in municipalities few people attend group meetings of young parents. The course highlights recognizable problems and solutions in a playful (but not patronizing) way. Together, parents carry out short assignments: in 11 episodes, parents discover how to build a good foundation for a happy family. A family in which parents strengthen and enrich each other. Not against each other, but with each other is the key. Parents gain a strong foundation for the profound processes they both go through.

Scientifically proven that prevention helps.
Some preventive interventions have been studied in recent years. These studies show that prevention helps parents get through the transition from partnership to parenthood better. The right mix between A) parenting education; B) practicing communication skills and C) the ability to do the intervention from home (Petch, 2007), have the best outcomes in terms of working together in parenting and being well prepared for parenthood.
Research by Petch et al. (2008) shows that if a co-parenting intervention can be done at home (e-Health), the likelihood of effectiveness increases. Anonymity also allows complicated issues such as sex and intimacy to be discussed through Parents Inc. Often a problem area among young parents that is taboo. It is difficult to explore this taboo in a group meeting.
Parents Inc. is Research Based. An RCT is currently underway at the Free University to quantitatively demonstrate that Parents Inc. is effective. Two pilots have taken place in the past 4 years with encouraging qualitative results. These were feasibility studies from which much feedback has been received. We incorporated the feedback from municipalities, professionals and young parents into the latest version. Thus, every year we try to improve the methodology, using state-of-the-art techniques and scientific insights about relationships and parenting. We work together with experts al NVRG, Opvoeden.nl, JGZ, municipalities and parents of young children.

Independent research shows that the investment pays off handsomely.
We firmly believe that it works, but from our research background we also want to demonstrate this. Parents Inc. commissioned a business case that independently demonstrates that the investment in Parents Inc. pays for itself for municipalities and agencies through lower healthcare costs.
